W12: Discuss Reagle’s chapter 6 - Sun Bo Sim

1. Summary
In this chapter, the author describes the founder's leadership in the Wikipedia community. The first part of the chapter, Bardar's second law, briefly describes how the author is demonstrating leadership in Wikipedia. “When a building is on fire, a leader will not survey everyone to see what the consensus is about a response. It is time for action.” This means that when an emergency or an important problem occurs, the coercive intervention of the founder is inevitable.
Next, the author shows how leadership is actually affecting Wikipedia. The writer describes the actions of Wales as "the authoritarian leadership", referring to the New Nazi incident in the act of Wikipedia, the founder of Wikipedia, as a last resort to act on fraudulent activities. It also emphasizes the importance of leadership by showing that these behaviors can affect the culture of the Wikipedia community.
The last shows the actions of Wikipedia's founders, shows their qualifications as a leader in Wales, and tells the direction of desirable leadership. I think we need to think about qualifications as a top Welsh leader who has made a small contribution to the community of contribution-centered Wikipedia.

2. Interesting Point
The interesting part is about intervention in leadership. In particular, there was an interesting fact in Jimmy Wales' past. In the past, wales, who discovered that his personal content was posted on Wikipedia in an article about himself, there was a case where he deleted the content in a hurry. I thought it was an abuse of leadership and it was interesting.

3. Discussion Point

I think the part to discuss follows the above. I think that it may be appropriate for pre-screening if leadership is not exercised. Pre-censorship seems to suppress the freedom of expression and I think that the development of Wikipedia can be prevented. What do you think about the criteria in the scope of leadership?

Comments

  1. I read your article well. A leader must think and act more important and cautiously about his or her authority and responsibility. It is necessary to solve the problem as much as possible in a harmonious and balanced manner through continuous discussion with many people, not according to his or her own intention.

  2. In most cases, it can be solved through discussion. But I think we should set a minimum range because there are times when we have to use authority.
