1. Summary
Free culture is very important to us in the 21st century. We need to know about free culture as we adapt to the Internet culture and use it freely. Free culture is related to the free culture movement. The Free Culture Movement is a social movement that promotes the freedom to distribute and modify creative works using free content on the Internet and other media. Only a few years ago, copyright on content was strict. People have proposed laws about copyright. And if these things were not followed, they would be punished. However, as the Internet developed, people began to publish their own information and knowledge. So this movement is against the excessive copyright law. Some people argue that overly restrictive copyright laws hinder creative action.
As a result of these movements, creations such as movies, drama or reports are shared with people. People also publish and share information in online encyclopedias such as Wikipedia. If free culture is censored and there is no freedom, communication in society today will be impossible. Only a small number of people will have the copyright to sell or share information. If so, there may be a small concentration of information. Of course, copyright law should be maintained. However, the law will need to be relaxed.
2. Interesting Point
I have checked that free culture is a very important concept in modern society today. Copyleft as an example of a free culture movement is a very interesting concept. Copyleft is a concept that is opposed to copyright in an exclusive sense. Some people argue that knowledge and information should not be monopolized by a few. And that it should be open to all. Linux is a representative example of copyleft. The Linux program was a copyleft that shared the source code with everyone at the time of development. 500 programmers around the world voluntarily participated in the development of the Linux source. The result was a successful upgrade. Therefore, the current Linux program has been created. Likewise, I think Wikipedia is a similar case. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia made by many people.
People around the world voluntarily correct information. At the same time as people make changes, they discuss information modification. And it became possible to communicate with many people through various routes. This is a great advantage of free culture. In other words, free culture can demonstrate collective intelligence.
3. Discussion Point
The free culture and free culture movement gave us convenience in information access. And it led to the voluntary participation of people in the online space. But there are some problems to think about. First, those who have jobs that require creativity, such as advertising or Movie planners, will oppose it. They will raise questions about not receiving compensation for their creation. What kind of things are necessary to prevent such problems?
As information is freely shared, I feel that responsibility should be increased. Knowledge is power. That is the importance of information. It's good to be shared, but I think it's better to share the right information first with responsibility.

ReplyDeleteI read your article well. As you say, the lack of copyright on Wikipedia can be a problem. If the meaning of copyright disappears, it will be a great loss to those who make creative knowledge like you say. But I think this is a springboard for a better society. Wikipedia's success story is backed up by a meaningless copyright story. I also think it is important to make laws for creative people.
