W14. What did I learn in this course ? - Irma Koum
The concept of collective intelligence was not that new to me. Because in my class in France I had a class of innovation & entrepreneurship and my subject was about collective intelligence in one community. People were supposed to gather their knowledge and their skills to put forward the values of their city.
But even if this concept was not new for me, in this class I've learn a lot about Wikipedia and I've put aside all the prejudices I had. I learn that Wikipedia is not only a free encyclopedia but it's also a big community of people who are working to make easier the access of the knowledge and who share one common value: the free culture. And like in every community there is rules to follow and it can have some punishment if you don't follow the rules.
Although the value of free culture is really good, Wikipedia remains like every real life community (it is a virtual community) between people and some disparities. For example we saw in one chapter the concept of the concept of " benevolent dictator ", and we also saw that wikipedua is really harsh for women that's why there is a huge gap between the number of men and women who are editing on Wikipedia.

What is the best option for you to reduce the gap between the use of women and men on Wikipedia?
ReplyDeleteAfter this class, I am not sure that male students will use more Wikipedia than female students. Because we all learned a lot about Wikipedia and maybe we will want to continue to share more our knowledge, and especially about our own country and what we like.
