Summary
This week, it was about collaboration and openness. The two words are inseparable. You can't collaborate without opening up. Collaboration is about openness as a security. Wikipedia is an open and collaborative space. This increases accessibility and lowers entry barriers. When you search Google for questions, Wikipedia is so accessible that it is located at the top of the first page. It also enabled collaboration through user tap-page or project discussions. It has the openness to edit pages even without signing up. As editing is free, verification procedures are naturally created to maintain the quality of information. I thought this was very ideal. Collective cooperation without a time and space constraint on the question updates information quickly and makes it more accurate.
I think other communities are open and collaborative, but not as productive and faster than Wikipedia. Also, nowhere is it more strict about neutrality than Wikipedia. This is a very important factor in Wikipedia's credibility.
Taking the responsibility for freedom and its consequences seems the same as for humans and webpages.
Interesting Point
We learn that collaboration, openness and the nature of the wiki are almost identical, but we need to think again about the responsibilities and neutrality of cooperation and openness. As was noted earlier, people, Web pages, or both, should be held accountable for their freedom.
Discussion Point
Everyone has an emotional presence. Of course the perspective of one phenomenon is different. Wikipedia is trying to narrow the gap through discussion, but is this enough to reduce the difference in perspective?
