W9 blog topic: discuss Reagle’s chapter 3 and 4 - Chojiwon

1.Summary
Chapters 3-4 are about Wikipedia's collaborative culture and openness. Wikipedia is a kind of open content community. Wikipedia is free content that anyone can edit. Wikipedia is a collaborative process. Wikipedia is publicly accessible and specialized in flexible types of collaboration. However, it can be difficult to balance press freedom and other issues such as the safety, transparency, integrity and the value of the prohibition against discrimination between people and the project itself. Proper control requires proper control. Wikipedia tries to balance it.
Wikipedia is currently trying a number of things to balance it. A public discussion, or a note about incorrect links. But there are many difficulties. If they do not solve these difficulties, they will never get better. This should be solved by Wikipedia.

2.Interesting point
The openness of the Open Society was interesting. Freedom and indulgence are different. Freedom comes with responsibility. Indulgence is not necessary. Openness means freedom. That's why we need to be responsible for the operation of the Open Society. Appropriate control measures are needed for this. But what is the appropriate control measure? If you read the article, Wikipedia seems to be making an effort. But I felt it was not yet at the right level.

3.Discussion point
No rule can satisfy everyone. Therefore, it is very difficult to share the rules for rules. What rules are appropriate? So how about finding a set of people who can keep the rules? First, it opens to users who have joined the open. Subscription is as simple as it is now and does not require any other large information. But it requires you to agree on the rules. If you can not keep it, you can unsubscribe after the warning. What do you think about these controls?

    In South Korea, telling the truth is considered a crime if it undermines someone's reputation. Even if Wikipedia provides freedom under proper rules, it will be greatly influenced by the state. How will Wikis respond to this?

W5. Can we trust Wikipedia? Yun-Jin Kim

Then I want to ask. Can we trust News? I think Wikipedia is based on sources. Every time we edit on Wikipedia we need the sources. If we don’t put sources, the information we wrote would be deleted.   So I think asking ‘How can we trust Wikipedia’ is kind of similar to ‘How can we trust News’. I know there could be subjective opinion on Wikipedia. If the topic is unpopular, the public opinion doesn’t focus, there’s could be no feedback and that makes Wiki subjective. for this reason, we have to think before we choose the topic in Wiki. If the topic isn’t famous enough and have no sources, we should think this information isn’t sure enough. but if the topic has clear sources we can have a trust on that information. I think it is not important to ask, ‘is the Wikipedia trustful’. It is important to ask ‘is this information on Wikipedia has a exact source?’.
