W11. Discuss Reagle’s chapter 5- Yun Jin, Kim
Consensus makes Wikipedia page. Consensus is why talk pages are existing.
Consensus is the preferred method of making decisions at Wikipedia. But some
says voting is not a good idea., consensus doesn’t work well in all
circumstances. It is best suited to small groups of people with some common
interests and acting in and assuming good faith but in a big group, different
story.
We need to think carefully about what author said about consensus.
The author says it doesn’t work in all circumstances. In Wikipedia we require exact
fact and share exact information but if we decide on consensus which doesn’t
work all the time, it could cause problems.
We’ve keep taking about how we can make Wikipedia reliable. Reliable
references make information reliable. Wikipedia is an open space and consensus is
a big power in Wikipedia. But I think consensus should be just a consult and
shouldn’t have a big power.
I agree with you. I also think that 'consensus should be just a consult'.
ReplyDeleteWikipedia is a platform that anyone can use. There are several groups within Wikipedia and there are also minority groups. So in Wikipedia, I thought the consensus of 'voting' could be dangerous. (Although the need for voting depends on which subject we are in), voting is only aggregated into multiple opinions, so the talk page will become meaningless as you said.
I think the agreement is a form of the ultimate Wikipedia ideal reached by debate among people. If there is no agreement, it could be forced and controlled, not an agreement. I agree that a neutral ideal agreement would have great powers.
