W5. Can we trust Wikipedia? Yong il Seon

1. Summary
I think the question itself is wrong. Can we trust Wikipedia? Instead, people who believe in Wikipedia are using Wikipedia. People who believe in Wikipedia have their reasons. For instance, the sources of information or the things quoted in the article are representative. However, things get complicated if you want to convey the information on Wikipedia to someone who doesn't trust Wikipedia.

The reason why people don't trust Wikipedia is very simple. Because it is impossible to tell whether the author of Wikipedia is an expert or not. We tend to unconditionally trust what experts say. We can trust newspaper articles because they specify exactly who made the arguments and what position they are held in. For instance, when we see the word "anonymous informant" in a newspaper article, we think it could be a lie. Therefore, people who value the author can not trust Wikipedia unconditionally. So, how can we make Wikipedia trustworthy for everyone? Is there no way at all? What are your thoughts on the matter?

2. Interesting Point
There is a way to expose the identity of Wikipedia's author and its founder. Of course, it is still easy to confirm the identity of the person who created the Wikipedia page. However, the ID is not important or revealing. My way of thinking is to make the identity more visible so that I can easily see what kind of Wikipedia page the person who used the ID was created. For instance, if a person who wrote about Russian writer Solzhenitsyn also wrote about Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, the page would be considered credible. On the contrary, if the writer for McDonald's and swek . swek burger wrote about Solzhenitsyn, then of course the page would be unreliable.

3. Discussion Point
It could also bring in some sort of pandom about the identity of the author of Wikipedia. But don't forget one very important fact. We can realize it from our experiences in life.

“Concreted lie will be truth and not-concreted truth will be lie.”
