What do I know about Wikipedia and what do I want to learn about it?  - Clément Chevallier

Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia. This is one of the most famous and visited website in the world. Wikipedia is available in more than 290 languages.

Wikipedia is still defined as a project. It means that this is not a final product. Indeed, Wikipedia is a platform on which everybody can collaborate by editing or adding contents. The goal is to share knowledge of people all around the world.

“It is a collaborative community that freely and voluntarily gives to the world a constant invitation to understand and correct. This definition from Lawrence Lessig summarizes well the project of Wikipedia.

Wikipedia has been criticized for diffusing false information and controversial topics being subject to manipulation. I think it’s an interesting point. Anyone is free to create and modify some articles. Checks inevitably take time. It could be dangerous in a world where the information is instantly shared thanks to social networks. It is funny because “wiki” means “quick” in Hawaiian. This is a seamy side of this freely available and modifiable platform.

That’s why I want to learn about the moderation of Wikipedia and how are new contents controlled and checked?
