1) Why people use Wikipedia?

 These days I can find the strong points of Wikipedia. Most of all, hyperlink function is well-organized so I can move in on them when a question arises. Other web sites which have encyclopedia page don’t have these well-organized hyperlink and foot note function. I think it is very kind.
 In Korea, when people search something, they use local web sites as Naver or Daum but sometimes people feel tired because of advertisement. Many web sites irritate people through advertising such as pop-up, power-link, fake ad and so on.
 Maybe the reason why these things happen is they are profit organization. But the Wikipedia is non-profit organization as we know, so users of Wikipedia can see the clear page without any advertisement. I think this point is also can be reason why people use Wikipedia.
 
2) Why do others write for it?
 
 In the past few weeks, contributing to Wikipedia make me feel a sense of accomplishment. The more list of my contribution is longer, the bigger my accomplishment would be. As I felt like this, Some people would contribute to Wikipedia because of a sense of accomplishment. I’m curious if there is ranking system in Wikipedia. Then, people who have competitive spirit may contribute to this collective intelligence more impassionedly like ranking game.

 I found interesting book for this topic. The book is 『The Penguin and The Leviathan The Triumph of Cooperation over Self-Interest, Yochai Benkler.』 In this book, writer said the good aspect of human and cooperaton bring us surprising consequences. He emphasizes good aspect of human but also acknowledges evil and selfish aspect is exist.

    Your thinking that the reason people use Wikipedia is nonexistence of advertising is very interesting. Because I couldn't think of this aspect of Wikipedia. And I think this is the reason people use Wikipedia. And I also felt accomplishment after finishing editing.

W5. Can we trust Wikipedia? Yun-Jin Kim

Then I want to ask. Can we trust News? I think Wikipedia is based on sources. Every time we edit on Wikipedia we need the sources. If we don’t put sources, the information we wrote would be deleted.   So I think asking ‘How can we trust Wikipedia’ is kind of similar to ‘How can we trust News’. I know there could be subjective opinion on Wikipedia. If the topic is unpopular, the public opinion doesn’t focus, there’s could be no feedback and that makes Wiki subjective. for this reason, we have to think before we choose the topic in Wiki. If the topic isn’t famous enough and have no sources, we should think this information isn’t sure enough. but if the topic has clear sources we can have a trust on that information. I think it is not important to ask, ‘is the Wikipedia trustful’. It is important to ask ‘is this information on Wikipedia has a exact source?’.
