W3. Why do you think people use Wikipedia? Why do others write for it? - Kim Byung Chan
As the technology of transportation and communication developed, the limits of time and space between countries were reduced, and this was the moment of globalization. In addition, the development of the Internet has caused a lot of people to get lots of information. Knowing real information in the Internet world where real information and fake information exist has become a force. It is inefficient for an individual to distinguish between the real and the fake of all information. So people started to build a collective intelligence. A representative example is Wikipedia. That is, Wikipedia is a place for collecting intelligence. Because Wikipedia is not limited by time and space, it can be used by everyone in the world without difficulty. I think access to Wikipedia easily is the first reason people use it. Second, the information on Wikipedia is well explained. There may be some unknown information in Wikipedia. But we can get more information that we do not know well through the 'hyperlink' function. It also helps you understand the information because you can attach pictures to Wikipedia's information. Third, Wikipedia tries to have as much truth as possible. Wikipedia requires the source to be filled in to determine if the information is true. That's why Wikipedia is reliable enough. In Korea, there is "namu.wiki" which is similar to Wikipedia. Although the system is similar to Wikipedia, it lacks credibility because it is not clear source, and there are many editorials. So it is difficult to use it as official data.
As I said earlier, information is power in the information age. Wikipedia containing a lot of information has become a big force. And because this power is shared globally for free, I think it will also help the development of the world as a whole. But because Wikipedia does not support all languages, even if it's free, there is a limit to what people use. It is also difficult for people in an environment where the Internet is not available. In addition, there is a gap between the information of the countries, so there is a difference in information. By solving these problems, I think that it will be a better collective intelligence and will contribute to global development. Wikipedia can add and modify information for everyone. However, there is no reward for taking this action. Nevertheless, many people do this. The first reason I think is public relations. If you add a piece of information to a Wikipedia that is used by millions of people and you want people to search for it, you can easily inform them a lot of information. The second reason was considered in the psychological characteristics of people. People want to be proud of others. I think the field of knowledge is similar. If you have information that you know better than others, you will want to show this information to others. In these traits, people add information they know to Wikipedia. Of course, there will be people who write information to share information with great sincerity. I personally write information on Wikipedia for my assignments.
