W2. My first edits. Describe why you made them. - ChaeHyeon Lee

My first edit was a ‘Homi’ and a ‘Fandom’ article in last semester globalization course. At that time, I first encountered Wikipedia as a page editor. In the last semester, there was even more difficult part. But I have been with Wikipedia for a semester, and I have become a little familiar. In this Collective Intelligence course, I had to do additional editing besides my articles. In the last semester, ‘Homi’ was to make new contents, and fandom was to translate from English to Korean. But this edit is to add or modify existing articles.

I was not easy to choose a topic. Regardless of which topic I choose, it was difficult to determine how to make any correction and what wikipedia need. I could not make changes on subjects I do not know. It was because of the fear of false information. So I tried to choose a topic as close and friendly as possible to me. It was Kakao Friends that came up at that time. For those new to the Kakao friends character, I modified the description of the character to make it easier to understand. Once I edited it, I became comfortable. I thought it was not that difficult.

I edited the topic I am interested in or was interested in. I edited the events that my favorite baseball team is running, information about rides in the amusement park, the TV program I enjoyed recently and etc. I wondered if my interests would be in English Wikipedia, but almost all the articles existed. So I was able to edit the article. I could get the information I did not know when I read the article for editing. The purpose was to edit Wikipedia but it was interesting to get new information. Also, as I edit one by one according to my interests, I felt more and more fun. I could modify it based on the information I know, and I could get it through a trusted site. I am confident that I can do more editing in Wikipedia in the future. And as far as I can, I want to help reduce the gap between English and Korean Wikipedia

  1. Hi, I had the same concern with you. I totally agree that it is hard to select 'what to edit' and there are already abundant information in
Wikipedia. My conclusion was also same with you that thinking about my interests.
