W1. What do I know about Wikipedia and what do I want to learn about it? - ChaeHyeon Lee

Before I know Wikipedia and study Wikipedia, I thought Wikipedia is a simple encyclopedia of information. If I needed information while doing some assignments, I searched for information in the ‘Naver’ encyclopedia or several encyclopedias. One of them was Wikipedia. I thought it is a kind of online encyclopedia. However, I changed my mind when I used Wikipedia in the globalization course I had in the last semester. Wikipedia is not just an encyclopedia that provides information, but an encyclopedia that makes knowledge together. In keeping with the rules of Wikipedia, anyone can easily modify and create Wikipedia.

In my last globalization course, I made article about 'Homi' in Wikipedia. After completing the article, I posted it on Wikipedia. After posting the article, the Homi article was modified by someone. Someone added a photo. In addition, Someone modified the content of the article to include the wrong name or content. This is a system in which someone writes an article, and another person fixes a missing or wrong part. This can be seen as the result of knowledge of many people, not one person.

In other words, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia of collective intelligence, such as the name of this course. Collective intelligence is the intellectual ability of the group that people get through the process of cooperating or competing. It seems that Wikipedia is aimed at sharing argument and creating higher quality information and knowledge beyond information sharing. So I want to learn how collective intellect can show up more effectively through Wikipedia. In Wikipedia, if someone writes an article, someone else will make a modification or refute the article. This way, anyone can correct the wrong information or suggest a better direction. In some respects, I think collective intelligence in Wikipedia can cause misunderstanding of each other. I would like to discuss how to solve that. Also in Wikipedia, I hope it will be time to learn the knowledge of various people and share my knowledge.

Comments

  1. I saw that my friend's article was deleted. Friends were unhappy that their article was deleted without a word. If my article was deleted, I would have been in a bad mood. I think it seems to be a misunderstanding in this part. In order to reduce misunderstandings, I think we should discuss the wrong part more than delete the article.
