W1. What do I know about Wikipedia and what do I want to learn about it? - Yeonju Heo

W1. What do I know about Wikipedia and what do I want to learn about it?

Before I knew about Wikipedia, I thought that Wikipedia is just a site having a lot of information. Last semester, as I wrote an article on Wikipedia, I became aware of what Wikipedia is. Wikipedia is encyclopedia of User Engagement. Anyone can easily post and edit, but follow the rules of Wikipedia. The writer must specify the source of the material and should not plagiarize. The content should be objective and not subject to personal supervision or promotion of a specific company. If you keep these rules, anyone can successfully post to Wikipedia. Also, anyone can modify an article that has already been created, fill in the wrong or missing parts, and attach photos or videos.

I would like to learn more about the technical ways of writing and editing via Wikipedia, but I want to learn more and more about collaborating and sharing ideas with others. I checked the article posted on Wikipedia in last semester, others have corrected the wrong part and added more pictures, so the article became richer. Some people appreciated my editing. I was proud of the fact that my article was helpful, and I was grateful to the people who fixed and filled my article.

I found that posting to Wikipedia does not end with simply uploading information. I thought that Wikipedia was the place to send information to others, to share opinions, and to make better quality content by posting. It is collective intelligence that shortened this process into one word, and Wikipedia is an aggregator of collective intelligence. So I want to learn what collective intelligence is, what collective intellect brings about emotional filling besides information. This semester, I want to learn how to communicate better with people and create good content through writing articles on Wikipedia. I hope I can learn what I want.

  1. From this class, I want to feel what you felt last semester. Feeling like grateful and proud of it. I also think that Wikipedia is a collective intelligence itself. From taking this course, lets get to know what collective intelligence is and how to use Wikipedia more smartly.
