In the past, I studied "Information technology and society". Then, the team`s presentation topic was "collective intelligence." A collective intelligence can not consist only of individuals. The collective intelligence I know is that many people cooperate or compete. So, collective intelligence is beyond the ability of individuals. Wikipedia and Facebook are the best places to express collective intelligence. Many people produce information they know, even if they are not experts. Individual's information gathers to form a knowledge.
For example, there is a company called 'Kakao Bank'. I wrote about a company called Kakao Bank on Wikipedia. I worked together with my teammates(three people). And over time, people around the world have modified the KaKao bank. They also added necessary information. In fact, I don't understand why people would voluntarily write in Wikipedia without any benefits. However, I could get various information for free by using Wikipedia. And I could study because I shared information I know.
However, there are some drawbacks. It may be a very subjective opinion. But wikipedia is more constrained than I thought. I wanted to put a lot of information in Wikipedia. However, the manager deleted my article, saying, " It looks like a promotional article. " And instead of giving feedback, the manager only gave reasons for the correction request and deletion. Of course, I may have written unnecessary information while trying to write a lot of information. If this information is included, I would like to know the reason more specifically.
An online encyclopedia called Wikipedia has disadvantages of malicious editing and incorrect content, quality of content, and a lack of accountability and authority. Nevertheless, many people from all over the world participate in it. So Wikipedia has become an online discussion space. It is also updated at this moment. And it is used for various reference data in homework, study, etc.
I want to learn Wikipedia more deeply in this class. Rather than just sharing information, I would like to share the unique culture of Korea with various people. I will write down specific and precise information to let others know about Korea. Also, I want to work with my teammates to demonstrate their collective intelligence.
