W14. What did I learn in this course? - Solène Huille
Wikipedia is a very famous encyclopedia used all over the world.
Before this course, I used to use Wikipedia but only to check some information on the net or to search something. Indeed, I thought that it is an easy way to have access to many articles and many knowledge fields.
Nevertheless, when I was in high school, our teachers wanted us to be careful about Wikipedia use because sometimes, there are mistakes.
For me, Wikipedia was a good mean to begin researches about something.
During this class, I learnt a lot because I didn't edit something on Wikipedia before and the concept of collective intelligence was not really clear for me.
The most important thing I learnt is that Wikipedia is a big community and is free. The sharing of knowledge is necessary even if you think you can add only a little sentence or picture to improve an article.
There are also some rules on Wikipedia and each user has to respect these rules. It is useful to have moderators to moderate sometimes discussions because everybody can express his point of view. It is a good thing because Wikipedia is always evolving in a good sense.
It is easier for me to edit on Wikipedia, add information or pictures and classify them. I can also create new articles and I can be proud of my work and feel to be part of this community.

I never edited Wikipedia before I heard this class like you, and I did not know exactly what Wikipedia was. So it was really hard when I first edited it, but I am very proud of what I edit every week.
ReplyDeleteBut still copyright problems are difficult and serious. Wikipedia is a free site that anyone can share, but sometimes the information we can add is sometimes not free.
So there are difficulties and I came to think about copyright.
When I add a picture or an article, I am really proud because I know that other people can see and read my works and I bring knowledge to people.
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing I learnt during this class is the respect of the copyright. These knowledge are really useful because it is not only related to collective intelligence but also to many other fields.
