W11. Discuss Reagle’s chapter 5 - Sun Bo Sim

1.Summary
In this chapter, the writer is about the consensus decisions that Wikipedia is pursuing. The process of agreeing to adopt the process of consensus, the definition of consensus, and how the process of consensus is actually taking place in Wikipedia.
First, the author discusses The Case of Disambiguation. The writer describes the consistency problem and demonstrates that it is representative of homonyms and solves them by using parentheses after additional links or words after homonyms. Disambiguation in Wikipedia is the process of resolving conflicts in article titles that occur when a single title could be associated with more than one article. disambiguations are paths leading to different articles which could, in principle, have the same title.
The second refers to the concept of consensus. The Wiktionary definitions for consensus speak of “general agreement,” “without active opposition to the proposed course of action.” It also said that this does not mean unanimity. The concept of consensus in Wikipedia is very similar to Quaker's consensus.
Hereafter, it is based on the technical content and actual events as to how the agreement is actually achieved.

2. Interesting Point
The concept of Disambiguation, which is used in Wikipedia, is a very interesting part, With Wikipedia, it's easy for anyone to find information about homophones. For example, if you try to search for a singer's name but come up with another concept that is a homonym, it is often embarrassing but kindly explained in parentheses that you can get the search results you want. This fact proved that Wikipedia is constantly working to create a perfect encyclopedia through the fact that there has been much debate in this chapter about the introduction of such a convenient system.

3. Discussion Point

We need to discuss what consensus will determine which is the best possible solution. The process of consensus is that many people go through discussions, and although they are not unanimous, we have to think about whether a few opinions can be ignored. We must consider whether the majority of opinions are becoming the mainstream according to the principle of utilitarianism.

Comments

  1. I read your article well. As you say, a discussion can be reached, but remember that certainly some of the opinions can be ignored.
