W10. What would make writing on Wikipedia easier for me? Yun-Jin Kim


For me, all the ‘codes’ are not familiar such as ‘{{Template:User Korean}}’. Also it is quite bothered that everything are ‘manual’.

 First, about ‘CODES’. I can understand why women are not write on Wikipedia than men.
That’s because of the codes. Wikipedia is consist of the codes, I know that every web pages are made by codes but in Wikipedia, users are exposed to codes not like usual web page does. Code is a computer word. This is not familier to who are women and children. This makes me feel hard and exotic to Wikipedia. If Wikipedia changes the code into simple button, then it would be more easier for me.

In Wikipedia, everything are manual. For example when we write in somebodies talk page we must have to left our account address. In social media when we write in someone ‘s talk page, we just write down what we say and upload it and that's done. We don't have to write down our account. Wikipedia is manual. If Wikipedia put more auto program then it would make me more easier.

    I totally agree that the fact that Wikipedia is manual so you cannot easily do everything you want to if you don't know how to use code. So an automatic program will make it easier to people.

    But I don't think that code it's the real problem nowadays for the gender gap on "what is the gender who edit more on wikipedia", because you can also edit on wikipedia is a normal way without using code you just have to choose whether you want to edit normally or you want to edit in code "Edit source". Futhermore if you want to know how to insert something in code you can just search for what you want on wikipedia and you will find people who have done it before so you just have to copy/paste it without typing it mannually.

These days lots of controversial problems are rising. And because of those problems, people fight on the Internet. But I think most of problems happen because of a lack of civic attitudes. As I highlighted the discussion section of Wikipedia last post, talking together with having civic attitudes is very important point. On the Internet lots of people meet. And this means all of them has different thinking and experiences different cultures. So it is certain that everyone's opinion is different. But I think from this difference, the collective intelligence comes. So I think this difference is very important. W5. Can we trust Wikipedia? Yun-Jin Kim

Then I want to ask. Can we trust News? I think Wikipedia is based on sources. Every time we edit on Wikipedia we need the sources. If we don’t put sources, the information we wrote would be deleted.   So I think asking ‘How can we trust Wikipedia’ is kind of similar to ‘How can we trust News’. I know there could be subjective opinion on Wikipedia. If the topic is unpopular, the public opinion doesn’t focus, there’s could be no feedback and that makes Wiki subjective. for this reason, we have to think before we choose the topic in Wiki. If the topic isn’t famous enough and have no sources, we should think this information isn’t sure enough. but if the topic has clear sources we can have a trust on that information. I think it is not important to ask, ‘is the Wikipedia trustful’. It is important to ask ‘is this information on Wikipedia has a exact source?’.
