W15. What is the future of Wikipedia? Will it exist in 20 years? 50? 100? - Hyerim Won
The era in which we live is a society in which everything must change and be accepted quickly. So, hundreds of years later, I can not easily answer the question about whether Wikipedia exists.
However, there are a lot of universal encyclopedias, but it is the most important advantage of Wikipedia that editors who is normal can participate and share. So Wikipedia is the center of collective intelligence. Wikipedia is essentially made possible by devices such as the Internet and computers. Then, several decades and hundreds of years later, other devices will emerge. Also, new information will continue to arise in the future, and Wikipedia contributors will continue to modify and still discuss. If so, only the 'stage' where information can be exchanged and opinions can be changed. We need to understand the problems of Wikipedia that are still being raised and think about how to apply them in a new society to be developed in the future.
Although it is a personalized society, I think that collective intelligence will remain. 'Must stay.' I think. If a site similar to Wikipedia does not exist and the site is not as participating as Wikipedia, people will come to Wikipedia looking for a place to share information and discuss freely in a rapidly changing society.
Then, will Wikipedia disappear if a collective intelligence platform emerges that is better than Wikipedia?
