W13 blog topic: Can Wikipedia disappear? - ChaeHyeon Lee
Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that freely edits and creates articles. Wikipedia is also an encyclopedia using collective intelligence. An encyclopedia that anyone can freely participate in can lead to spontaneity and interest. Voluntary collective intelligence is a positive factor that can increase efficiency. A meeting in a better direction through cooperation with others can cause synergy. Collective intelligence will be an important factor not only in the present but also in the future. I think Wikipedia in that respect has a requirement to be maintained.
Wikipedia will not disappear. But if a new encyclopedia emerges, it may be changed. Wikipedia has always been criticized for having a professional encyclopedia format and enormous amounts of unprofessional content. In the future, there will be an encyclopedia that complements the problems of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is based on the source. However, despite using reliable sources in Wikipedia, there has always been controversy over unprofessional content. Wikipedia articles are not articles written by experts, so you can question its professionality regardless of source. If criticism is left as a simple criticism, there will be no development. There must be something to survive in market of the encyclopedia. I think Wikipedia needs to be competitive with the flow of the future encyclopedia.
Since Wikipedia already has a vast amount of content, it seems a little difficult to replace it with another encyclopedia. It will take a lot of time to collect as much data. But Wikipedia has to solve those problems. After a long time, before the alternative dictionary comes out, Wikipedia has to reinforce its content. But it is doubtful how many people will serve for it.
