W12: Discuss Reagle’s chapter 6 - Kim Byung Chan

1. Summary

Chapter 6 explains the role of leadership. For the growth of Wikipedia, leadership should be open, civic, and deliberate. A person who has these characteristics of leadership is called a "benevolent dictator." A benevolent dictator gently guides the community and mediates internal conflicts of goodwill, and defends those who act with bad intentions. Wikipedia is a place of collaborative culture that can be used in real time all over the world. Without an administrator, Wikipedia will be chaotic. At this time, benevolent dictators control conflicts as they protect against unintentional blatant and intentional interference. There is still controversy whether a benevolent dictator is currently playing the right role. This discussion will continue.

2. Interesting Point

So far, I've added and modified several Wikipedia articles. I've seen my articles go back to normal, but I did not know it was from a benevolent dictator. I knew for the first time that there was a benevolent dictator for the order of Wikipedia.

3. Discussion

Dictatorship means concentration of power to a minority. Power refers to the authorized rights and powers that can subjugate or rule others, not to the benevolent dictator of Wikipedia. Since benevolent dictators are not benefactors, I wonder if there is a more appropriate expression than a dictator.
