1. Summary

Wikipedia is a kind of an open content community. One of the Wikipedia’s motto is “Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.” Wikipedia community members do share common practices and norms; they share a collaborative culture. Open content provides thing that is available under licenses like those that satisfy the Open Source Definition. Transparency makes its processes, rules, determinations, and their rationales available. Integrity ensures the integrity of the processes and the contributions of participants. Also, there are nondiscrimination and noninterference. However, it can be difficult to balance the associated values of transparency, integrity, and nondiscrimination, as well as other concerns such as free speech and the safety of people and the project itself. But this collaborative culture is the representative characteristic.

2. Interesting Point

In the past, I accidentally edited in Wikipedia, but I found that it was written anonymously. I found out again that anyone can write and edit without a Wikipedia ID. This openness of Wikipedia makes the power of collective intelligence that everyone can participate. However, openness can also be a disadvantage. This can lead directly to the absence of an accurate source. There is an advantage that anyone who writes under an anonymous mask can participate, but there are people who maliciously ruin the edit. They are called troll.

3. Discussion Point

Is there a way to prevent these troll? There have been actively discussing the pros and cons of anonymity, but I do not think there is any definite precautions yet. Wikipedia can improve this through discussion, but is there any more definite way?
