W10. What would make writing on Wikipedia easier for me ?
Before this class, I did not know that I have
the right as everyone in the world to edit or create an article on Wikipedia and
to be a part of this community. This was the main reason why I was interested by
the class. When the class started and the professor explain us that we can edit
and create article on Wikipedia I was still skeptical because Wikipedia is a
knowledge platform where you can’t write whatever you want because everyone
will see it, and I am really afraid to transfer false knowledge or irrelevant
information.
Moreover, the more the class moves
forward, the more we learn about the different rules on Wikipedia who
can be really tough because your article can be delete for so many reasons. But
over time, I got used to these rules and write on Wikipedia is easier for me.
Nevertheless,
I truly think that if I was not doing this class I would never be able to know
that write on Wikipedia is that easy. So this class is what make writing on
Wikipedia easier to me. My question is how do other people who does not know
how Wikipedia works and who doe not have this type of class can write on
Wikipedia easily ?
As far as I
am concerned, the thing which would make writing on Wikipedia easier for me or
for others is a tutorial notification every time that I take a step on editing
on Wikipedia. The platform is really huge so even to find the right information
and tutorial to help you is difficult and without the class as I said before I wouldn’t
be able to know that. So Wikipedia could make its help desk more easier to find
depending on the activity of the persons.
To answer your question, there are a lot of help pages and tutorial on Wikipedia but also on other websites (like YouTube for example) where you can understand better how Wikipedia works. But I agree with you that the platform is really big so it's not always easy to find the right information you need. From my point of view, Wikipedia should simplify the navigation between pages.
