W6. How important is it to be civil online on the Internet? Cho jiwon

1.Summary
Citizens' activities on the Internet are very important. This is because the current society is an 'information society'. There is a saying that the people make society. The participation of the people constitutes and develops society. Citizens' economic activities increase the society by activating the market. Citizens' active involvement serves as a check on the country and creates a better country. If this activity has been offline in the main stage so far, the main stage is changing to 'online' or 'internet' space. Online shopping, online petition, etc. Now, online space is not just a virtual reality but a real reality space. What happens online also affects offline. Examples of entertainers who commit suicide due to bullying or an online petition submitted to the government show how much the impact is. But there is always a problem that happens every time you make a social change. It is the lack of consciousness of people. People are making a lot of mistakes because they do not know how to act offline yet. An example is the use of anonymity to denounce others, or to write unproven facts as if they were facts. Because these mistakes are not simply ending in online space, citizens need a bit more mature behavior.

2.Interesting point
My major is 'information sociology' and I am interested in 'information society'. In small, 'information' is always shared between people, largely between groups. The online space is the space where this information is easier to move freely. Due to the nature of the space where information flows more easily, the online space has a strong influence on one piece of information. But people tend to think about 'information' easily. You need to be deeply concerned about what kind of influence the 'information' you provide will have on you.

3.Discussion point
I want to talk about the problem of anonymity. Anonymity must be guaranteed for free claims in the Internet space. But I think there are more disadvantages than the advantages. It seems to be bad because this is not to settle the correct internet culture of citizen. What do you think about this?

Comments

  1. I agree with you at the fact that anonymity has more disadvantages than advantages. Because the anonymity was to protect your personal information which is normal because you don't want an unknow person to find you and steal your information on something like that. But now anonymity is a way for some people to be bad to others without any restrictions and to hurt others. And that's not really good for the society, because now the anonymity is use as a weapon to hurt others.

  2. As you mentioned, there are a number of problems behind anonymity. However, nevertheless, the anonymity's innocence should never be ignored. I think that the problem of anonymity is emphasized either by the level of consciousness of the people within the country. In other words, it is necessary to raise the level of consciousness of the people rather than to use the real name system to solve the problem of anonymity.

  3. As the time passes, information may become more important. i also agree that people seem to ignore the importance of information. For the reason that we are at information society, we have to participate through internet and be the part of society. But like you said, anonymity is the obstacle to civic internet society.
