W5 : Can we trust Wikipedia ? - Sujin Park

Summary

Last class, We studied about reliability and verifiability. Wikipedia have many ways to keep their reliability and verifiability. For example, there is a reference system. You should tag reference if you write a sentence. It will be deleted or tagged yellow alert by other Wikipedian. So we talked many things about the reference and source are come from. University or academic research, a book, self research like blog and etc. But all sources are not reliable. So we should distinguish whether it's good or not.

Interesting Point

I think this is main point to keep maintaining Wikipedia. People can't believe information what is not verified. So Wikipedian keep doing these course. Struggles of them make Wikipedia one of most verifiable site in the world. Actually I'm not sure why they do this so hard. I want to know why they struggle to make this things clear.

Discussion point

In Korea, actually source of information is not important. In Korea website, people believe what they want. They ignore opposite voice of their mention. And also in Korean Wikipedia, there is so many writing without source not like the other countries. So what is big difference between them and Korean? I wanna talk about this.

Comments

  1. You have pointed out the problems with Wikipedia Korea. Sources are still unclear and lacking in information. I think it's because a few number of active people are involved rather than participating in it. Perhaps because there are not many Koreans and they are unfamiliar with Korean language, so information insufficient.
