W4. Discuss Reagle's Chapters 1-2. MinSeung Sung 2016062706

 1. Summary
     Wikipedia is both an Internet community and a world encyclopedia. It is a world in which everyone can freely share knowledge. Wikipedia is made up of sound judgment and people's cooperation.
The origin of Wikipedia

It is no exaggeration to say that Otlet's dream of developing storage technologies has created the current Wikipedia. Otlet's experience with database building + invention is a language with the creation of the world's encyclopedia Wikipedia. Also, Bibliographic, which formed the basis of taxonomy, is the origin of Wikipedia.

     Before Wikipedia, there were also many different communities and encyclopedia. Nupedia, among others, is unsuccessful but has meaning in the process of development. Through Nupedia's process, Wikipedia could be created. Wikipedia was created as the public needed to communicate in both directions.

 2. Interesting point

     For me, the first time I read the concept of online encyclopedia through Wikipedia, I thought Wikipedia was the perfect encyclopedia from the beginning. But as I realized that there were also different communities before Wikipedia, I realized that these were the result of countless failures and experiences. The importance of developing knowledge based on experience was interesting from this.

3. Discussion

     What I would like to discuss is the potential for Wikipedia to develop in the future. Through this passage, you can learn about the origin and development process of Wikipedia. This brings us to the thought of how the future of wikis will evolve. The future society will have to deal with more complex and diverse social issues than it is today, and Wikipedia will also have to evolve accordingly. I wonder how Wikipedia can survive the rapidly changing age of technology without being left out.

W5. Can we trust Wikipedia? Yun-Jin Kim

Then I want to ask. Can we trust News? I think Wikipedia is based on sources. Every time we edit on Wikipedia we need the sources. If we don’t put sources, the information we wrote would be deleted.   So I think asking ‘How can we trust Wikipedia’ is kind of similar to ‘How can we trust News’. I know there could be subjective opinion on Wikipedia. If the topic is unpopular, the public opinion doesn’t focus, there’s could be no feedback and that makes Wiki subjective. for this reason, we have to think before we choose the topic in Wiki. If the topic isn’t famous enough and have no sources, we should think this information isn’t sure enough. but if the topic has clear sources we can have a trust on that information. I think it is not important to ask, ‘is the Wikipedia trustful’. It is important to ask ‘is this information on Wikipedia has a exact source?’.

These days lots of controversial problems are rising. And because of those problems, people fight on the Internet. But I think most of problems happen because of a lack of civic attitudes. As I highlighted the discussion section of Wikipedia last post, talking together with having civic attitudes is very important point. On the Internet lots of people meet. And this means all of them has different thinking and experiences different cultures. So it is certain that everyone's opinion is different.
