W2. My first edits. Describe why you made them-Geonju Lee

Before starting Wikipedia, the most difficult thing was to choose theme. I was afraid others might get the wrong information from my unclear editing. I was also afraid to make a vague expression with the wrong language choice, as I had to write the information in English, not Korean. So, I decided to try editing first by selecting field that I know well and that I am familiar with. Based on the hometown I lived in, I selected and modified cultural assets and places related to the place.

Yangdong Village is my grandmother's house. When I compare Wikipedia with the information I learned from my childhood, it was amazing. It contained more information than I expected, and it was accompanied by a variety of references. But I soon realized it was my imagination. All links were invalid or already deleted addresses. And there were only a few lines of explanation and a few simple positions, but no specific explanation. It is a valuable cultural asset to be listed as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage. Why is the information entered insufficient?

I think this question is an extension of why Koreans don't use Wikipedia during last class. I think the simplest answer is ' incommodity '. Foreign countries use Google and Wikipedia for their searches and YouTube and Netflix for their videos. However, in South Korea, you can do all your work on one portal site called ‘Naver’ by not necessarily using another. So even the informators with the most information about Korea do not feel the need to use Wikipedia. After all, they can not get into action because they can not psychologically ignite.

  1. I totally agree with you; what you were afraid of is what im afraid of.
and I think Naver is useful to koreans but it's also blocking information to the world.
Most korean use Naver not google; the international search engine that could share information around the world

    1. Me either. I subscribe to your opinion.
But recently, people are raising a question that Is Naver neutral enough?
So far, Naver has been considered that it functioned properly as main search engine in Korea.
Though, as more and more people get in discussion online and interact and communicate together, they're getting a doubt on Naver's monopoly status. I think it might make the current situation enter a new phase.
