W3. Why do you think people use Wikipedia? Why do others write for it? _ JiWon-Min
Wikipedia is a new type of free encyclopedia that anyone can directly log on to Internet sites and edit and supplement the knowledge and information they have already registered.
Then, why do people use Wikipedia? I will explain about it in terms of accessibility and reliability. First, it is easy to get access to the information you want. After the advent of the information age, we can easily get information online. Since Wikipedia is also an online service, it has a low entry barrier to using it.
Second, accurate source labeling and discussion between users will enhance the reliability of the information. Although Wikipedia runs in a user-editing format in the era of Web 2.0, it does so to ensure the reliability of information. If the source is not unclear or marked, the post is deleted. This makes Wikipedia attractive on online, full of inaccurate information.
So, why do other people write for it? I find this area interesting too. Why do people write even though there is no financial cost to publish information on Wikipedia? Unlike in the age of Web 1.0, in which information had to be received from a particular individual or group, I think Web 2.0, which makes it possible for anyone to be a provider of information, has had a significant impact.
In my opinion, it is because they feel a sense of achievement as if they are experts themselves by becoming information providers to many unspecified persons. On the basis of the evidence, I would like to describe it as " Esteem, " the fourth step of Maslow`s " Hierarchy of Needs. " It means that in the " Esteem " phase, humans will seek self-esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of layers, and respect by layers. Information providers may also consider it a reward to be recognized by their information users or discussion members. In other words, It could made possible because the Web 2.0 based Wikipedia stimulates the high level of human desire.
I would like to end my post with a debate. What if there was a system that measured the number and quality of information posted on Wikipedia? How would it affect the behavior of Wikipedia users if it was revealed with your ID? Can we improve the amount and quality of Wikipedia's edit?
