W2. My first edits. Describe why you made them- Tae Joon YOO

1.Summary


I have written Wikipedia articles since last semster, but i am not used to making corrections. It was hard for me to choose the article what to make corrections. After thinking about topics, i decided it would be best to revise one that i know well.  my first edit topic is Pangyo technovelly. The reason why i choose Pangyo technovelly is that it is the IT-centered, concentration point of the companies in korea. The pangyo techno valley is similar to the silicon valley in the united states. And also i live in Pangyo-dong which is 3km away from Pangyo Techno Valley.

2. Interesting Points


I was surprised that there are more information than i thought. I thought there are lack of informations about korea. But also there was some important informations missing. Although there was a brief explanation for the company located in Pangyo Techno Valley, it lacked infromations about each comapanies and there were no citations or links. I added information about Pangyo boxing gym which is located at Pangyo techno Valley. It is the most big boxing gym in Pangyo province, and many employees at Pangyo techno Valley are registered. Meetings within the company also take place in this place and about 1000 Pangyo Techno Valley employees come to exercise everyday. i also linked the hompage.

 

3. Discussion point


Wikipedia has a lot of local informations. There are also many articles about the korean region even in English  Wikipedia. But there is a great lack of explanation for the characteristics and attractions of the area. Would writing this information be considered an advertisement?

    I read your article well. Do you think it is an advertisement to add a description? I don't think so. The discussion I posted this week is similar to this. I think Wikipedia activity for Koreans is very insufficient as you think. I wrote in my article that I think is a lack of interfaces. As you say, you may think that you are short of activities because you have been treated as an advertisement and deleted.

W5. Can we trust Wikipedia? Yun-Jin Kim

Then I want to ask. Can we trust News? I think Wikipedia is based on sources. Every time we edit on Wikipedia we need the sources. If we don’t put sources, the information we wrote would be deleted.   So I think asking ‘How can we trust Wikipedia’ is kind of similar to ‘How can we trust News’. I know there could be subjective opinion on Wikipedia. If the topic is unpopular, the public opinion doesn’t focus, there’s could be no feedback and that makes Wiki subjective. for this reason, we have to think before we choose the topic in Wiki. If the topic isn’t famous enough and have no sources, we should think this information isn’t sure enough. but if the topic has clear sources we can have a trust on that information. I think it is not important to ask, ‘is the Wikipedia trustful’. It is important to ask ‘is this information on Wikipedia has a exact source?’.

These days lots of controversial problems are rising. And because of those problems, people fight on the Internet. But I think most of problems happen because of a lack of civic attitudes. As I highlighted the discussion section of Wikipedia last post, talking together with having civic attitudes is very important point. On the Internet lots of people meet. And this means all of them has different thinking and experiences different cultures. So it is certain that everyone's opinion is different.
