W1. What do I know about Wikipedia and what do I want to learn about it? - Seron Kim

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is quick and easy to tell what people don't know and it is very convenient. However, it is different from regular encyclopedias. Wikipedia is that people all over the world can add and edit things anytime, anywhere. And those who add and edit are not doing it for compensation. People are free to edit and complement Wikipedia on their own initiative. It doesn't end in a single event, but it continues. So we are a ‘cooperative community’ that has gathered in a space called Wikipedia.

Before reading this article, I didn't know there were rules and standards in Wikipedia. I just knew that many people could edit. However, I have learned that Wikipedia also has rules and principles that must be followed. For example, it is to clarify the source of information.

There is so much information in Wikipedia. It is also easy for people to access. And the information is constantly produced and edited. But imagine if Wikipedia had the wrong information. I hope someone discovers it and fixes it correctly, but otherwise incorrect information will spread among people. Such incorrect information can cause damage. What should you do if this situation occurs? How can we stop wrong information spread? It would be good to think about it.

  1. I'm also worried that the wrong information can spread to Wikipedia. In particular, if we are dealing with controversial political issues, it is possible that distorted information can spread. But I think this should be solved by the collective intelligence of Wikipedia too. Just as voluntarily gathering information and accumulating knowledge, people will have to be more voluntary to correct the wrong information and deliver the right information.
