W1. What do I know about Wikipedia and what do I want to learn about it? - 2016062706 MinSeung Sung
What I understand about Wikipedia is 'the collection of diverse opinions'. The fact that anytime, anyone can access Wikipedia makes it able to deal with tremendous subjects. But also, the information can be subjective rather than the truth. For these reasons, what I expect to learn in Wikipedia is people's various opinions and ideas.
The concept of ethnography was very fresh to me. From Collins, ethnography is the branch of anthropology in which different cultures are studied and described. To consume Wikipedia appropriately, I think it is fundamental to understand ethnography. I want to learn and understand more deeply about ethnography.
Wikipedia is run by random people's voluntary works and based on the Internet. This means Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that is undeterred by time, place and costs. It is certainly the truth that this fact makes Wikipedia more abundant. On the other hand, I think these traits can be double-edged. This is because nobody takes charge of wrong information although numerous people can modify it. In this way, arbitrary information can be spread by many and unspecified persons. For these reasons, I think it is important to have the ability to accommodate data more sensibly before consuming Wikipedia's data.
