Extra posting: Do we need to know how to use Wikipedia? Boeun Kim

At first, I thought we don’t need to know how to use Wikipedia because we instinctively know searching mechanism. Now I think at that time I must believed ‘Wikipedia = searching portal.’ Many Korean people may think so. If the purpose of using Wikipedia is searching, people don’t think it’s worth them being tried over.

But Wikipedia has more function than just searching. People can edit and discuss with other people more easily. Most of all, I think these process are very important because people learn how to mediate differences of opinions. For Korean, it is much-needed ability. Not long ago, Korean people are reluctant to discuss with other people but these days people gradually tend to carry one’s point. But Korean local web sites don’t have discussion function enough. So I think we have to know how to use Wikipedia, and by doing so we can improve our discussion culture.

  1. I have read your post in glee. :)
I also learned a lot of aspects and functions of Wikipedia through this class either.
And I surprised to know that the existence of forum that can debate each others' opinions and that people are forging the platform by constructive, mutually beneficial discussion.
However I doubt if such thing works at other community or portal site: not Wikipedia. I want to hear your opinion on this point.
